UK singles chart.

Am I not correct in saying that the charts weren't announced until Tuesday in the old days?
That was the problem for Top of the Pops, they only had a couple of days to get the line-up for the Thursday evening programme.
Also, what was No 40 in the charts on Saturday 24th November 1973?

Gary Glitter, I love you love me love, went number 1 13th Nov for 4 weeks.....
..and yes I think they were released on the Tuesday, it was quick turn around for Thursday nights TOTP, but also there was the chart rundown show on on Sunday night where I used to write down all the top 10 and try to record some of them from the radio on my music centre and the ol cassette recorder....

Me too except I only had a separate cassette player and had to stand the radio next to it. So many of the recordings had my mum talking on them too...or worse singing along!

We know that bit. At a guess earlier, I thought it could have been "My Gang" but I was right about GG.
Number Ones are easy to Goggle and look up and lots of people can remember all the good ones, it just that I want the whole chart. It seems that the Google results give from Saturday to Friday for some reason when in those days it was from Tuesday to Monday. If I ask for what was No 40 on Saturday 24th November 1973, I get the charts dated Saturday 24th ................... and not Tuesday 20th November.
Therefore, what actually was the No 40 record as per TOTP on Thursday 22nd November 1973?
I bet you're all asking why I want to know ..................................
It's our 40th Anniversary on Nov24 and we're having a get-together. We're thinking of having a fun quiz during the do, so if you find out the answer to this one, don't tell anyone, just whisper it to me.

'twould appear that The Official Charts dot com website has strangled all the other websites that used to have all the correct info.
I remember a website that listed the whole pop charts from the 50s to the present day. Every single record in the top 40 for every week. They had the dates they were announced too.
By digging about this evening, I found a reference to when the charts went to Saturdays and it was as late as 1987, so The Official Charts dot com aren't that "official".
I cannot ask a question when I do not have 100% faith in the answer
and facts to back it up.

Just reminded me....somewhere I still have a tape with the start of "Only making plans for Nigel" on it followed by a lot of newpaper rustling, a "shut up dad", and an argument!

In the 70s the pop charts came out on Tuesday lunch times about 12.30.
At school we listened on our little radios in the lunch hour which began at 12.20.
FA Cup draws were always on Monday at 12.30.

Have you tried the waybackwhen machine if you can remember what that mini site was?

What's a waybackwhen machine?
Can't remember the charts website sadly. It was on a previous Mac and since had a new HD. I may have bookmarked it.
As I said, it seems the "official" website has sucked up all the info from other websites, I even found one yesterday evening that apologised for not being allowed to publish any specific info.
I found another website that had Sweet with Blockbuster as No1 instead of GG I love you love me love.
In the old days, everything on the internet was true. These days, most things are untrue or at least flawed.
