Thanks for that - looks like i'll strike the Soto off my list of possibles!

So, has anyone any experience with one of these?

I have got one of these: http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/hi-gear-bla ... ve-p158215

It is an okay little stove burns very similar to the Pocket Rocket but a little lighter. They are made by Fire Maple and come out of the same factory.
There is your way. There is my way. But there is no "the way".

The Optimus Crux may be worth considering - it folds flat to fit in the hollow in the base of a gas canister, which is handy if you keep the canister in a pan.

Some sort of rigid case is quite handy in small stoves - the pot supports & serrations are quite good at making holes if the stove is packed loose.

I've gravitated towards hard-anodized aluminium myself. "More likely to burn" should really have been "needs more stirring to prevent burning". Thick things like porage or beans will burn in anything if not stirred.

Thats a real shame as its a fantastic little stove. It cooked my morning porridge and evening meal this evening. Having got a couple of other stoves inc. the MSR Pocket Rocket (who doesn't!) and the Soto is still my go to light compact stove.
