If this light should be on permanently or not?

It seems to have three settings - On hard bright, on flashing bright and on hard not so bright. Does anyone have the same light and does it do the last setting? I cant find a name on it anywhere and cant remember where I bought it. Seems a bit daft if it's normal operation as the battery will eventually go flat! The only way to turn it off completely is to remove the batteries.

Will it switch off if you hold the button in for several seconds?
Rick.

I'd hazard a guess that the "hard not so bright" setting might be the off setting but perhaps moisture or a leaky battery is shorting out the electronics. I've got a light whose batteries had leaked and now it won't switch off (or toggle to any of the other modes for that matter).

I had one which behaved in a similar way. A blast from a hair dryer solved the problem.

I have exactly the same light and same issue. On the 'not so bright' setting (actually 'dim' might be a more accurate description for my light), the battery does eventually go flat, but that seems to be after several months.
I'm looking forward to someone coming up with the answer on how to get it to go off.
In the meantime I've bought
this little beastly for £2.99 and it works a treat but it doesn't have the BS standard reflector in it like the one in the OP

The OP's light might be a Hella rear bike light that was available from Halfords a few years ago, a bit like this one:-

The Hella rear light has two modes - a steady state and flashing mode. If it's the same light then the OP's light "hard not so bright" setting must be the off setting.

Yeah that's the one. So looks like it's a fault. Bummer. I'll try the hairdryer cure. Thanks for all the replies.
Which didnt work. Halfords strikes again.

That's a shame. I managed to get my light working again; I cleaned up all the battery 'acid' that had leaked from the battery which did the trick. I had to remove and clean both sides of the PCB board before it worked though. Do you think the battery might have leaked inside the your light?

No the light was never used. After buying it I realised there wasnt anywhere to fit it so It's been in a drawer without batteries. Then I tried to use it on another bike rather than remove the lights from my usual bike. You know the lesson here is to always test stuff as soon as you get it and before you throw the packaging away.
