This guy wasn't wearing any kind of helmet.

Freddie Faceplant.
Bicycle helmets BTW, serve two purposes.
1/ They keep your cranium cool in the sun.
2/ They keep your cranium warm in the cold.
But how do they know?

How does the detector differentiate between a genuine fall and a cyclist braking hard to pick up a fifty pence?

Given that car air bags are well known to be deafening (not always as temporary as you'd like) I wonder what the consequences of one of these going off right against your ear would be...

Sheldon Brown got there first but I can just see people taking one of the Swedish ones on the plane with them for their cycling holiday!
Seriously though there are some videos floating around of a number of crash test dummy collisions wearing the new "helmet". The most interesting thing though is if you go through them in slo-mo, despite the crash test dummy being unable to take any preventative action itself, in not one of the crashes did the dummy head come near to hitting anything even without the airbag.

I, and the Ministry of Transport at the moment, don't give a flying t**s if you wear a helmet or not.
Your brain, your risk.

I e-stopped and grabbed a £1 coin this morning, and my helmet popped.
I showed this to a friend last night and he told me he's had an wind bag on the back of the tamdem for years.

This "helmet" would do nothing for the 'Cracknell' type injury of a cyclist getting hit by a motorvehicle (or part of it).

And you think the
conventional one did much?
Right, shall we try and stay out of the ghetto now?

I notice the friend didn't have the nerve to post that himself. (If he does, he'd better be wearing a helmet

…)
