A coupe of tools to consider for those who are still having poblems:

Simpson Tyre Mate - £12 - SJS
Var Tyre Lever - £7.50 - SJS

The Simpson gives better leverage but is bigger than the VAR - Mrs bikes4two has the VAR in her bike tool kit.
