Reach from bar boss to the hoods is 20-30mm longer on Noodles than Deda compacts....I can measure later, if you like.

This is a bit of a can of worms. Q. why are you fitting Noodles? if you find the compacts too compact, then the noodles will be fine. I assume you want the xtra length of the 'ramps' giving you a longer section twixt 90deg bend and the hoods, that the noodles give. If you position your 'hoods' to be exactly as they are now, then your 'tops' may well be closer to the saddle with a shorter stem. whereas if your tops are the same , then the hoods may be further away, with your existing stem. I prefer the latter, as other wise ther is no advantage to the xtra length to the ramps.but then i do ride in a more agressive posture (fast audax as opposed to upright touring). So its not just a straight swop. Also do bear in mind that the noodles need a 26mm bar clamp NOT 25.4. What lenght stem do you have at present. I have a 110mm 0 deg, 110mm 10 deg. and a 100 0 deg. in 26mm your welcome to try them if you want to xperiment. I would fit first, then try for a while, not just 10 mins, say a few weeks.

I can't think of a good reason other than (a) they look lovely and its on a late 80s build (b) everyone raves about them and I wanted to try them.

What I have done is on the new build is have a shorter tt by around 1cm but keep the 100stem. The increase in lenght is to the hoods and maybe I should change how I ride to go more on the ramps, which I didnt really do with compact bars.

I like Noodles simply because they are shallow drop (which means I can reach it!) and relatively long reach, which means I can have a short stem and my handlebar bag closer to the headset where it doesn't weight the steering as much, with my usual reach to the hoods.
The business about the bars bending back from the boss before they go forward again to the hoods .....that's all wasted on me, I'm afraid.

But the "classic" appearance isn't all bad, either.

The short drop will appeal if i ever get the bike on the road. Better see if I can borrow an 80mm stem.
