Return from The Lizard

Post by Fellwanderer »

I'll be doing my variation on E2E next summer and will be finishing at The Lizard after LE as I'll be visiting my best friend and cousins down on the peninsular. I'll be returning to Durham on either the 10am train from Penzance to Durham or the sleeper to Paddington and then KC to Durham.

Depending on which train I get, which is the best station to catch it from if coming from Ruan Minor or Coverack?

Last time I caught a train down to go to the Lizard I got off at Hayle. My son does a lot of business in Cornwall and he advised to take the road from there to Helston which was okay.

With a bike often it can be better to get on at the start of the journey, you get more time to load the bike. In that case Penzance would be the only choice.
There is your way. There is my way. But there is no "the way".

If it were me, I'd aim for the Penzance train @ 10am.
Coverack to Penzance is 20odd miles only. You can do that easily in a couple of hours.
Ruan Minor is slightly less, and it's flat-ish down there.

As Bikepacker says, you can get on the train at the start and load your bike properly. The added advantage is that you are on the same train all the way and your bike will stay put.

First come, first served.

Thanks - as PNZ looks like the best option, I'll probably come back to PNZ the day before and get the earlier direct train to Durham.
