Tasty grub for taking on tour...
Those jolly folk from Nottingham, the Alpkit team, recently ran a competition inviting suggestions for tasty camp cooking - the recipes might include something you'll take next time you go off into the wild.

I've cooked lobster on an open fire in the Highlands to teh astonisment to two walkers who wre packing cheesy pasta

I cooked Scallops(In ginger and garlic) and Stornoway black pudding while cycling the Outer Hebbrides last May. All cooked on my Traigia stove on a beach in Bernary..Bliss

Whole salmon BBQ'd in foil whilst touring in Oregon.

Im always amazed at how good fresh food tastes after a hard days exertion, and yeah fresh fish open fire cooked is almost impossible to beat.

You still have to carry the gas bottle, so saving a few grammes makes not a great deal of difference.
One of the greatest bits of fortune I had while cycle camping was to be able to source a couple of locally caught fish at a campsite in the Icelandic interior, since otherwise we weren't seeing a shop for about 11 days and the food options from our stash were getting a bit tedious after a while. Being Iceland, and hence not so different from living in a fridge, I could dare to buy enough to eat some the next day too. No wood to barbecue it though. Unfortunately I am not of a competence to catch my own fish.
I often buy prosciutto-style ham while cycle camping, because it keeps quite well in your pannier and a small amount of it adds a lot of taste to a meal.

Cheers! I shall definitely try something along those lines. Never heard of Alpkit but they do seem to do some interesting stuff.

We have something similar, and a bigger remote-can gas stove, a multi-fuel and a Trangia (gas or meths) and while the grammes don't matter much between them the cubic centimetres often do.
For cooking I much prefer a remote-can stove but we use the mini-stove for some trips and it's a useful bit of kit to have in the armoury.

Their down clothing is very good indeed - I ended up using one of their jackets for a sub-zero tour in France in April

There's a lot of fresh sea-food lovers amongst us! Me too
but I rarely cook it when I'm touring - don't know why!
Reminds me of the old joke about the 'sea-food diet'...
Normal Person: "Have you heard about the latest new food diet? It's great and really works!"
Food Faddy Person: "Which one's that, then?"
NP: "The C-Food Diet."
FFP: "Oooh, sounds great - I love fish - where can I buy the book? Who invented it? How does it work?
NP: "Simple really, you see food, and eat it!"
