Maybe Lyndhurst also...... Sorted........

Post by leftpoole »

Hello all,
I am going cycle camping this Saturday for a few days. Depending upon best train times or rather the best bargain ticket offer on the day I will be going to Barnstable, Devon or home to New Forest, Roundills site.
Anyone in either area offering any Camp sites other than one I mentioned? Also good holiday rides in Devon. I know New Forest well as lived in the area for many years.

Off the A39 at Bucks Mills (between Clovelly and Westward Ho!) is the Steart Farm camp site. Was very good last time we were there (in a caravan  ). Close to Tarka Trail which is a good ride.

I met with a couple on the Tarka Trail last Sunday who were staying at a campsite near Chivenor that they thoroughly recommended. However, they were also uncomplimentary about the one in Croyde at which they stayed the previous year.

If it's any help, I've got a directory of campsites in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, and Somerset - Camping Southwest. Unlike most other directories, you can ask for campsites that have the facilities you need within a specified radius of a listed place or where you click the map. My site doesn't recommend or publish reviews, so if you find one that looks good on there it might be as well to search the Internet to see what other campers have said.

HTH,

We only sold the van this Spring - and for the same reason - kids didn't want to know :(

If GeoffL means the Ruda site at Croyde, I'll agree - it's turned into a noisy, chavvy site. There's one at Braunton Burrows which is better, I think. Don't know about he one at Chivvy.

Hope you enjoy!

camping trip

Post by leftpoole »

Thanks all. I have been out to a train station and managed to book myself and bike onto an assortment of trains Saturday. Off to Brockenhurst as it was the easiest option re booking the bike at times I requested.
I know Dorset and Hampshire well, its my home area.

Personally I'd avoid Roundhill (too noisy) and go for the Red Shoot Inn campsite about 2 miles north of Ringwood (on road up to Stoney Cross) - it's got decent showers as well as running beer...

Hello,
Thanks for the interest re the camping sites. I have camped dozens of times at Roundhill and love the place. Also Schools back so its now very quiet-I called to ask! I might go across from Lymington to Isle of Wight at some point.
I used to live in the area and in a couple of years hope to be moving back once daughter has started or finished University.
