Hi,
I currently am running on my touring bike Tektro R200 brake levers with Min VB brakes. Till now was running Tektro 80 mm V Brakes, I just swapped them against shimano 90 mm v brakes because I was mounting larger tyres with fenders and had some tyre clearance problems.
So far so good, the system works, but with the 80 mm as wel as with the 90 mm I still have the same problem that the rim/pad clearance is very small.
I was just wondering if I should just swap the complete brake system, and move to Tektro RL520 (specific for V brakes) together with some full length V brakes.
What I am not clear is if this would give me more rim/pad clearance.
Any Idea?
Thanks.
manuel
Mini V vs Full V
Re: Mini V vs Full V
I use the Tektro RL520 levers with Shimano mini V quite successfully. Much improved clearance and I have not noticed any improvement or decline in braking efficiency versus Tektro mini V with Ergo.
I suggest that you try RL520 levers with your Shimano mini V then if you are happy all is fine, if not you can fit full length V brakes later.

Hi,
thanks that was also my first idea. I was wondering anyway what happens with braking power. Someone suggested me that if I use RL520 with Mini V, then I would have to apply more power to the brake lever, as they are designed to pull more cable.
What is your experience about that?
Another point, how is the feeling when braking, are they "spongy"?
Thanks.

Re: Mini V vs Full V
Sorry I have re-read your answer and seen that you already answered my first question.
Re: Mini V vs Full V
I have 4 machines with mini V. Most are 85mm Tektro or Campag ones and I have them on Campag Ergo levers; one has RL520 with the Shimano mini V. There's nothing spongy about any of them, all are powerful and easily modulated - to use modern terminology. It happens that I like a lot of lever movement so I can live with 85mm and Ergo levers giving not a lot of rim clearance but the combination of 90mm Shimano and RL520s gives me a lot more clearance which is handy because they are on my hack and so most likely to have to put up with mucky conditions.kawa9999 wrote:Another point, how is the feeling when braking, are they "spongy"?
Re: Mini V vs Full V
Hi tatanab,
one more question.
I have seen that for fine adjusting the brakes I will need some kind of barrel adjusters. Indeed I currently run additional brake levers (cyclocross) on the top of the drop bar, which have an adjuster. But I want to remove them because they do take lot of space and I never use them.
So the question is, wich barrell adjusters do you use? I have see many for example from jagwire or shimano, but all of them are for gearshift, and they put always a warning that it is not suitable for brake system.
Any advice?
Thanks

I use Tektro noodles with built in adjusters http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/tektro-tektr ... prod18060/
