Pannier Rack for the On One Pompino

Hi guys.

I want to fit a rack to a On One Pompino - which has a wishbone rear triangle and the rack mounting holes at the top are essentially two holes either side of the same tube (or so I'm told).

The rack that needs to be fitted to it has to have good adjustment for the top mounting hole. So I was wondering, what rack would you choose?

My current rack(s) is/are Topeak Super Tourist DX, but by the looks of things, the arms at the top wouldnt do so well being mounted so close together.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers

Vlad

i don't use a rack on mine but i'm 99% sure that they are in the usual place i.e lower on the seat stays than you suggest. a normal rack would be no problem.

I've got a Tubus Fly on mine, but I can't see the problem - pretty much any rack should work fine.

Even a Topeak super tourist DX? I've already got two on my other bikes, so might as well keep it in the family, especially as Im considering the purchase of an MTX bag at some point...

I've a TorTec Expedition on the Pompetamine but the Topeak Super Tourist DX looks like it will fit. Seeing as you already own two of the racks, try fitting one and see how it goes.

that is so simple that it's complete and utter genius!
the pompino is not here yet, but when it comes, I shall do just that! :)

I've got a Pompino. I forget what the rack is - think it might be a Blackburn EX-2. Fitting it was no great problem, but the mount arms are sprung in somewhat because the rack design lines them up to be parallel, and the Pompino does have mount points rather closer together than some.

Yes, this is precisely what I've been warned about by a friend.

Good to hear that you mounted yours with no problem.

I have another super tourist DX rack on order now. If it doesn't fit the pompino, I have a rackless bike which will take no problem :)

Thanks for the advice, guys

That's similar to mine. The main issue is that the mount arms are horizontal for most of their length, making them harder to flex inwards. It'll probably be OK, though.

The main thing about the topeak racks is that 2 mounting points are used on the top plate, which makes the mount arms difficult to flex inwards.

The toretc ones, for example, only use 1 mounting point on the top plate, so you can swivel the arms.

I might try to use only one of the holes on the topeak, which will allow me to swivel the arms. I can't imagine that it will pose a problem to only use 1 of the holes, the nuts are nutlock ones.

The simplest ideas tend to be the best yet it's surprising that they are often overlooked. A quick google over the internet suggests others have successfully used the Topeak Super Tourist DX with the Pomp however if you wish we can provide a few measurements of our own bikes and you can decide for yourself.

The Tortec Expedition also has a transverse slot for the mount points, which means you can line up the arms rather than have to swivel them. I also found with the two mounting points on a Blackburn rack that there was enough play between the mounting points, the bolts and the arms to angle the arms sufficiently to attach to the wishbone chainstays.
