Even from a photograph, you can appreciate the craftmanship and effort thats gone into that design.
Thanks for posting.

Unless I'm mistaken, the best (lightest, least heat damage) way to get a stiffer tube is to use a bigger diameter.

+1 And for some reason it looks wrong to me.
Yes it's well made but there is just something about it that doesn't gel. ?
Overall though a very nice bike.

I think it`s as much about showing what they were capable of as frame builders rather than any actual structural performance advantage(If there is any),much like Hetchins curly stays amongst others.
As someone who was pretty handy at`makin`n brazin`i can appreciate the complexity and amount of work that has gone in to it.
The last but one large image is now my current screensaver BTW

In the early days of RTTC time trials, you weren't allowed any "branding" on the bike. Hetchins' curly stays, and Hobbs' "diadrant" forks and all the other stuff was basically advertising.
Or so I was told. Before my time, you understand.

That`s the story i`ve heard as well!
Am i right in saying the Masi chainstays in theory should have more vertical compliance but more lateral stiffness than plain tubes of the same size?

They are the masters of all they survey in cycling terms!
