hi, me and my friend are doing LEJOG the opposite way round because we live just by lands end and obviously want to finish there. Does anyone know if it possible to do this officially because the 'official' starting point is in lands end but we still want our trip to be recognised and get all the stamps!

The John O'Groats hotel has stood empty for several years, although there is the multi fingered signboard there and usually a photographer lurking about in summer. The staff at the shopping centre and cafe are usually helpful and could probably be persuaded to endorse your attempt. Best of luck at Helmsdale if your coming down the East coast or Hope if your doing the Durness, Cape Wrath variation. For the minor detour the CTC will even provide a badge and certificate for your visit to the cape!

Suggest you wait until the fingerpost warden clears off about 5 o'clock then take your own photos, saved us a few quid.

I have just completed John O'Groats-Land's End in August this year. I did not register because I was doing this for me and not for the record, but you can register at the Groat's Inn. Do this on the evening prior your departure because in the morning the inn is closed.
If you want to have my route and the B&B and the hotels, you are welcome.
I did that in 18 days, this was to celebrate my 60th birthday.
Enjoy it and just go for it.
Jean Arnould.
