i have a chorus Ti seatpost in a 631 race frame. very nice. apart that is from the series of scratches on it from when a non bike riding & much heavier friend took my brand new made to measure, rourke down the road and back and managed to force the post down into the frame by an inch or so.....

ooh, nasty.... if the scratches are not too deep then some 600grit paper, elbow grease and polish may see it right though; that is the beauty of Ti....

cheers
Are you certain it's a Chorus or Ti pin? I would have thought that Ti would have been reserved for Record level gear only. I've a Chorus pin in satin chrome finish which looks awfully like Ti. If it is the satin chrome finish and you were to sand it, you might remove the plating. Just a thought.

Never seen a stainless steel one, but a steel one would be a good choice for a utility bike, as opposed to aluminium. At least an uncoated aluminium one - the blackened ones can be quite durable, but avoid the silver untreated ones.

Well I dunno. My Chorus came in an identical box to that linked to the 'Chorus' Ti one above. Strikes me as slightly odd for Campag to market Ti at Chorus level, when it's the premium material to use. Were any other Chorus components made of Ti at some point?

at various times the Chorus group has contained identical Record part numbers, or the same parts with something different writ upon them. I expect a trawl through the campag spare part catalogues will show what is (was) what.

[edit- MIG has got there already...!]

Thank you for that - I'm genuinely interested. It does have a warmer hue than the satin chrome, doesn't it? (apart from sayin Chorus Ti on it!)

Yeah, polish away, I say.

BTW at one time Gazelle roadsters used to come with a steel seat pin that was sheathed in stainless steel. This looked pretty but the corrosion that could arise was incredible.

It is worth noting that if you use a stainless steel (or Ti) seat post in a steel frame, if you do get corrosion, the frame will corrode, not the seat post. In this respect an aluminium seat post is arguably a better idea, since a corroded alu seat post can be drilled out/binned etc and the frame is usually OK.

Hi,
Is'nt this why staying with a alluminium even cheap seatposts is the best practical solution :?:
I am always pesimistic and sceptical ( we know that NA :) ) of materials which are on the surface appear astheticly and technically superior but can hide a hidden expense, even if its cost :?:
