Home made P-clips

Post by Steve »

I need to make up some P-clips to attach a custom low-rider rack to the drop-out braze-ons. Which would be better to use: aluminium from an old seat post, or an old tin can? They're just a temporary solution, I don't want them to last forever.

Sorry Steve, not too sure what you're getting at.

The drop-out braze ons have bolt holes that a low-rider bolts to, doesn't it?

Do you mean the clips that connect the TOP of the front rack that fits to the top of the front forks?

If you do, the front low-rider racks come with top clips for the forks, normally. At least they did when I bought one many years ago.

Anyway, I made some clips recently for supporting the torque arms for Roller Brakes. I used brass strip, about an inch wide, bending it it a vice, drilling it, and bolting with SS nuts and bolts.

The p-clips I'm talking about fasten the diagonal strut to the braze-ons on the dropouts. The original steel clips had worn out. I've made them from aluminium strips wrapped round the strut & drilled for a bolt but brass might be better.
