I've got one, had it for many years now. I sheared the steering post under heavy braking, it was replaced under warranty and hasn't done it again. The clamp on the steerer does have more play than I like so it remains a worry. Possibly mine was an early model and it's been rectified since. It rides well for a folder if a little twitchy but you get used to it and there's enough gears for hills and getting on on the flat. The fold is ok if you keep it well lubed but the cables can foul sometimes which can be a pain. I reckon it's worth the money but there's lots of other good folders out there these days...

Thanks for the info.
I decided I would buy it, have a ride on it and compare it to my R20, and then return it if it didn't suit. Went in and offered £55; they wouldn't haggle, £70 or nothing. I was on the point of taking it anyway when I checked and they don't do returns on bikes (even though most of what they're selling are horrible sheds)...
Not worth the hassle. </flounce> I'll go back and offer £50 if it's still there in a couple of weeks

I do fancy something that folds smaller than the Twenty, but I'm weighing up fold size against flex, non-standard parts etc. (The Tailwind looks like it has a very thin fork/front hub, one-piece stem and bars, fit depends on the bespoke seatpost...)

I had one about 15 years ago..I thought it was awful...heavy ..difficult to fold..and carry.Folders have improved a lot since then...Look on Ebay if you a want a folder..I would recommend an old Dahon ..steel perhaps or alloy ..or one made under Dahon licence..ie..with Raleigh Boardwalk..Ridgeback ..They are generally simple ..ie..freewheel not cassette..old fashioned B/b..and folding latches are simple and strong..

I was under the impression that the Tailwind was a Dahon badged as a Ridgeback? But maybe it's the other way round...
Thanks for the warning, either way!
