Respect to you!
I took my Brompton on the train when the tube strike were on and cycled from Hampstead down to Buckingham Palace Road, then back to Kings Cross. I enjoyed being out with all the other cyclists, and I have to say 'Respect to you all'!
I chatted to bus conductors. Was forced onto the pavement (where I walked) by the weight of traffic leaving not an inch of space. I watched car drivers see me in their mirrors and pull over; either to give me space or squash my space! I cycled down the mall with the horse guards, crossing enormous open roundabouts, chatted to Boris Bikers. I was even forced to 'RLJ' by being pushed across a junction - hey I know its bad - but the volume of traffic pushing left no space in the boxes reserved for cyclists - I was left in a vulnerable exposed spot so I nipped through before traffic came at me across the junction. The only evidence I saw of trying to improve safety were signs on buses and trucks saying "Cyclists stay back" or something like that. Well if I did I would have been reduced to a standstill.
So - London Brethren - respect to you all and in the words of the Duty Sergeant on 'Hill St Blues' - "Lets be careful out there"
