Does a month per bottle sound about right? I assume from you knowing the availability that you've used this kind of stove before?

Are you using a pot cosy? Saves a lot of fuel.

Yeah I will be and if I have enough car sunshade left over I'll probably take a section as a wind shield too. Good point though! I guess the time between refills will depend a lot on useage!!

I made my windshield out of a baking tray (A quid in Sainsburys) and a bit of wire from next doors garden (Loop a bit of wire out and you can anchor it with a tent peg...).

The pot cosy has probably been my favourite cookshop addition.

any chance of a photo of this ingenious sounding windshield? I hadn't really thought much past a square of sunshade and maybe a couple of untwisted wire hangers XD Your solution sounds much more stable though!

Not got one handy but pretty much this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKgG6rlR-gI

When he puts the wire along the bottom and folds it over, I punched a hole in the centre of the tray and fed a loop of wire through to anchor it. Never really needed to use it though.

Wicked thanks!

When you said a sainsbury's baking tray I was picturing a solid metal thing! That's where I was confused! That video is really helpful though thanks!! =D

Screw gas canisters are expensive in Europe and not all that easy to find. I use the long popular canisters. They are available almost everywhere as people loke plumbers, painters use them as well as car campers etc. I bought an adapter off e-bay for about £6.

It makes a very stable setup. A canister costs me €2 in France. Lasts quite a while. Don't know how long as I've never used one up.
Last year I just needed to boil water, so I took a titanium esbit stove and one small pan. Tin foil top and wind deflector. Weighed nothing. Two esbit tabs was more than enough for 2 cups of boiling water.
Those foil containers that contain chicken legs etc make good plates that you can fold flat, keep food warm, stand your stove on, easy to wash and you can throw them on your way home. Oh and they are free.
