Route suggestions - Dusseldorf to Strasbourg
I need to be in Dusseldorf for work in early May. Wifey has booked a guided cycling tour for us in the Alsace region of France later in the month. We have basically 7 days to ride from Dusseldorf to Strasbourg. There are the obvious Rhine/ Mosel/ etc cycle routes. Through Belgium could also be an option? We have been up and down the Rhine by car quite a few times over the years and have driven along the Mosel before. We are food and wine lovers so there is something to be said for Rhine/ Mosel by bike but looking for options/ recommendations for routes and this to see.
Say 60-80 miles a day so plenty of time for boozy late lunch.
We're both strong confident riders and like a challenge so hills, traffic, offroad can all be dealt with. I think we would go insane riding a couple of hundred kilometers of flat cyclepath.
Packing a creditcard and traveling light with no camping gear.
Say 60-80 miles a day so plenty of time for boozy late lunch.

You could use the Bergischer land to get down towards Siegen then use the Westerwald to take you down past Koblenz, catch the Rhein to Rudesheim area then cross over and head almost directly souththrough the Pfalz/Saar wine regions to Karlsruhe then its but a short hop onto Strasbourg.
Cycling in the big cities isn't a lot of fun, this route avoids Koeln, Bonn, Mainz etc but does include some great scenery, nice places to visit etc.
Of course the rivers are fairly stress free routes but can be quite busy although you are a bit early for the main Dutch trekking season!

Convention? what's that then?

Re: Route suggestions - Dusseldorf to Strasbourg
If you want to avoid the industry around Karlsruhe I suggest heading to Wissembourg. As suggested leaving the Rhine at Rudelsheim/Bingen and going south to join the "Deutsche Weinstrasse" along the eastern side of the Pfalzer Wald. Wissembourg is on the border at the end of the weinstrasse. Strasbourg can be reached either down thr Rhine or the minor roads on the french side of river.
I do not know how long it would take but an alternate route would be Moselle, Saar valley, Saarbrucken, Pirmasens Wissembourg, Strasbourg.
