Lakes Vs Pembrokeshire, Aug
Planning a family camping holiday based around activities including cycling and torn between the lakes and Pembrokeshire. I'm worried the Lake District will be way too crowded in August but thought I'd ask on here and see what comes up. Please pitch in with your opinions, tips and warnings! Thanks.

Kind of agree with you. Pembrokeshire will be much quieter and has some crackinge coastal path sections as well. We go to the Lakes every year, but always in late November to avboid the crowds. We always found the Little Haven /Broad Haven area to be nice.

I would say that the lakes will be very busy and the quiet roads will be difficult on bikes, depending on the age of the kids.
Pembrokeshire is a quieter, and there are lots of off road cycle tracks that the kids may be better with. the Celtic Trail runs the length of the county to dip in and out of, and there are other shorter routes as well.
The other advantage is that with careful selection, there is a train service running parallel to many of the routes, allowing a cycle out and train back linear rides
The Cycle Pembroke website may give you ideas

I live an hour's drive away from the lakes and would never spend time there in the high summer, sadly..... to be avoided.

We regularly take our caravan to Pembrokeshire. We must have been there maybe a dozen times. We don't take bikes as we go to walk the coastal path. Thoroughly recommended. We pick quiet small sites (max 5 vans) mainly farms. If you end up choosing Pembrokeshire, send me a PM and I will give you more detail.

Definitely Pembs: no competition. We've had a couple of St Davids area hols with kids and it is smashing. Not too crowded cf Lakes, esp if you cycle away from the favoured beaches. But even if you go to the popular beaches, there's the advantage of not having to find a parking space.

Thanks folks, that's a pretty emphatic response!
