Ergopower Levers with canti's?
Ergopower Levers with canti's?
I have loads of NOS Campag stuff from 2006-2007 including some beautiful Chorus (alloy) Ergopower levers. Can they be used with cantilevers or V's?

with cantis, yes. I'd suggest a mid profile set rather than a wide profile set.
With V's yes also, provided you use travel agents with them.

Small point .......
My Campag Chorus Ergos have CF levers .......... 2006.
The Alloy Chorus levers date back to 2003 at the latest.
From 2004 onwards, they went to CF.
TBH, I'd much rather have the alloy levers, I've never been that happy with CF brake levers.

Re: Ergopower Levers with canti's?
Until recently* I rode 2 bikes with 2007 alloy levered Centaur 10 speed Ergolevers.
They worked well enough on a sometimes loaded bike, with Tektro 720 cantilevers and also Tektro RX5 MINI V brakes. They won't be suitable with full sized V brakes unless (as Brucey mentioned) 'Travel Agents' are fitted - and one doesn't mind a kinky cable
*After 30 or so years I've ditched conventional drop handlebars

A Shimano Tiagra R463 90mm V-brakes works well with my Veloce 10spd Ergos without travel agents, better than a Tektro 85mm Mini V IME: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/shi ... s-ec041351
A lowish profile LX canti on the rear is fine as well.

They look interesting - my radar hadn't picked those up before thanks niggle

Re: Ergopower Levers with canti's?
Ive got a full set of Campagnolo Veloce Mini Vs in the garage somewhere. Good stopping power but needed to be very close to the rim and there's a lot of lever movement - so maybe those cable booster things may be useful for a degree of mud and grime clearance.
Re: Ergopower Levers with canti's?
Thanks for replies guys. Some good ideas there and I'm also considering this option too;

A bit pricey though : (

Re: Ergopower Levers with canti's?
naah, IMHO you don't want those....
1) they are wide profile cantis with a low MA; lots of running clearance, but you will have to pull the brake lever about twice as hard as with those as with well set up mid-profile cantis and much harder again than with mini-V's.
2) they cheaper there than some other places but they are still wildly overpriced for what they are. IIRC those brakes are made in Taiwan for Campagnolo by Tektro . So, in a nutshell, you are probably paying ~£20 for a Tektro brake and ~£55 for a Campagnolo sticker.
cheers

Still preferable to having a full Campagnolo groupset but with Tektro branded brakes IMHO.

Re: Ergopower Levers with canti's?
you can remove black labels from clear anodised parts using a little acetone if it really bothers you.
Of course, if you must have two pairs of brakes that don't work that well with specific things written on them then I'm sure it is worth an additional £110......
By the same logic presumably if you rub the (not very well done) Campagnolo branding off the Tektros you will immediately have to go and buy some more I suppose?

cheers

Re: Ergopower Levers with canti's?
On the price front I see that Ribble are doing a full set (4) of the Campagnolo CX cantilevers for £75.50 - that's a bit more to my liking.

Re: Ergopower Levers with canti's?
that is a better price for sure. But it presumably won't have escaped your notice that they do Tektro 720
http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/brakes-brakes-road-tektro-cr720-cyclo-cross-cantilevers-pair/tektbrar500
for £25.52 for a full set (both wheels). If you are going to buy a wide-profile canti, that would be my choice.
However it doesn't solve the MA issue; the MA of both these brakes is very low; these are really meant to be CX brakes where many riders are happy to trade MA away for more pad clearance at the rim. If you search this forum (and others) you will find numerous unhappy road riders for whom the combination of levers (ergos, STIs etc) meant for DP brakes did not give enough MA with these wide profile calipers for road use.
A mid profile canti will be almost twice as powerful. Avid Shortys work OK.
cheers

Great tip! Now I can get 'Ultegra' taken off the 57mm brakes on my otherwise fully Campag Chorus bike.

Re: Ergopower Levers with canti's?
If spending money is no object and you want some canti's that will work, how about these beauties in stainless steel? Etched logo's unfortunately
