On my Brompton I used the basic Ergon GP1's together with a pair of modified bar-ends (I shortened them!) capped with cut-down cheapo mtb handlebar grips for comfort. The GP1's were about £20 or so and I winced a little bit as I had to cut them down, brand new & out the packet, by circa 15mm to fit on the Brom (not much bar room on these bikes). The bar ends were shortened so as not to interfere with the fold. This set-up really does mimic my road bike on the hoods position very well, being very comfortable and allowing various hand positions. As for the Ergon's (sounds like something out of Star Trek) they are beautifully finished and do look classy.

On my MTB I fitted Tioga Power Stud 6's and they are without doubt the best bar ends I have ever used, easy to hold and the shape allows a sort of 'resting' palm position which is very natural feeling. These are mated to normal mtb grips and despite this the set-up is still comfortable and good enough for day rides. I suppose I am saying that good bar ends are more vital than good grips!
