Chainguards: oil on your best suit

I've been meaning to ask what's popular for a while, so viewtopic.php?f=5&t=84797&p=763134&hilit=oil+on+your+best+suit#p763134 has finally prompted me to start this poll. I don't consider the plastic circles that just sit between crank and big ring to be sufficient guards - but I'd be interested in a comment if they should be enough to protect trouser legs and I've been doing something wrong!

Bonuses if you post a link to any good deals on a guard suitable for a 48/38/28 front and 11-32 rear.

Sorry, I voted "nothing but I use trouser clips".

It's many years since I needed to ride a bike in RN uniform, but when I did I always had my trouser clips.

I rarely go out in non cycling clothes but when I do (chip shop run) I just tuck my jeans into my sock. Guess you can't do this for slacks though.

you can buy these on amazon I think.

The slot in the top is for the front mech to poke out of. You can only fit this chainguard to a crank that sticks out (i.e. has lots of clearance) because the front mech cage is completely hidden inside.

By number of journeys my most used bike normally has a chaincase BTW. Except that bike is in pieces at the moment.

Ho hum...

cheers

couple more options -
my colleague has a thing that clips on and goes round with the chain (dunno what it's called) He reckons it's reasonably effective.
I have toothed belt (no oil involved at all........)

I thought this was the cleverest thing I'd ever seen when I first saw one. (Biologic freedrive chain cover, I think). Works with singlespeed, IGH etc, basically if there is no tensioner you can usually fit one.

However, in real-world use the thing simply fills up with water and then the chain goes rusty, worse than if you had nothing there at all. So despite it being a neat idea, unless there is a completely waterproof chain lube I don't know about, sadly this gets 'nul points'.

cheers

yeah - that's the thing - he's had it on for a few weeks now (and the weather has been quite poor), but he's away skiing right now; I'll try to remember to ask him about it on Monday

I just wear shorts all year round, legs dry quickly and no oil. (I did use to work in Finland so this country isn't cold....)

This if I am wearing 'normal' trousers (popping round the shop etc) but mostly I wear cycling tights or shorts (commuting, day rides, touring). I find cycle clips don't hang on to my trouser fabric very well and those snap wrap things are worse if anything, whereas my socks grip well. Also why hunt around to find something special to put on when you have a sock that does the job better?
