He wants some cars and to go driving.
Yawn.

What would YOU do with a hundred million squids?

Pay off the mortgage...
Buy the deserted social club in the village for my church.

Buy a large building to kit out with dormitories and work spaces to get the homeless housed and provide a halfway house as they get back to work etc...

Repeat the above in various cities...

(The first two are somewhat selfish, but the last one has been on my mind since my teenage years... I'm just never likely to come into that much money)

Drop many millions into converting all the disused railway lines in Devon, Somerset, Cornwall into cycle paths (specifically Taunton - Barnstaple, Bampton - Tiverton, Tiverton - Exeter, finish of the tarka trail convertion all the way to Bude, etc) plus extend the Cloud Trail from Worthington to Ashby De La Zouch.

Buy a large number of shares in Alfa Romeo, because I like Alfa Romeos, and buy some classic Alfas.

Buy a house near my Aunty's in Italy, and my sister in laws in Texas and maybe a slightly larger house to live in during school term time. Nothing to ostentatious - something nice and middle class ;)

Give 10 million to my family to divide up and 10 million to my wifes family to do the same.

Put a chunk in trust for my daughter.

Stick the rest into buying farmland and converting it to woodland, then live off the EU money for doing this (plus managed woodlands generate money)

Buy a nice custom bike from Enigma.

Not that Ive thought about it or anything... ;)

Just think of the impact on your cycling though - every time you go out you'd be scared of being recognised and kidnapped for ransom! You'd have to have Cameron style minders follow you everywhere.

In the first three years of the lottery my wife's friends won a mere £300,000. Brought them nothing but misery with everyone and his dog in their family going to them cap in hand, and they divorced shortly after due to the arguments.

I'm guessing that for many, if you can't be happy on a moderate amount of money then you can't be happy on a fortune.

Auyway, what would I spend it on? there's a historic house that I love, that has seen better days due to the recession, etc. I'd spend the money on helping it live up to its full potential even if that meant running at a loss every year (which it would).

Look after the immediate family first and foremost. Others can whistle. Buy another house in Cornwall, had one for 10 years but now after selling it 7 years ago I miss it. Go to see all those places around the world I still want to see, some of them travelling by private jet, others in large groups because you always meet some people you like in large groups.
My good works would be to set up a free advisory service headed by someone like Ros Altman to guide people on how to set up a self invested personal pension without any financial advisors and thus get vastly improved pensions. And, I would lobby parliament to allow employers contributions to be paid into peoples personal pension pots too.
As for bikes, I am very happy with the ones I have, but there's always room for more .:-)

I think I would give most of it to my four children, and set up trust funds for my seven (soon to be eight) grandchildren. I certainly wouldn't waste any of it on a fancy car, although my one indulgence would be a nice titanium bike. I'd still go to my local Co-op just before closing time for reduced bargains  , but then I'm a mean old git

Hi Jezer, why don't you buy all of the Co-op and then you can just go into any store and help yourself.

Myself, I'd probably buy a Moulton.

I'd be very quiet about it.
The chap has gone for publicity ......... but I wouldn't.
Then I'd give most of it away.

Then again, I wouldn't have bought a ticket in the first place!
Money cannot buy you happiness.

The Rolling Stones have cancelled their first date in OZ because M Jagger's "girlfriend" has committed suicide due to debt.
Why didn't she confide in M Jagger? He could have just written her a cheque, it was only £4M.
No, money can't buy happiness, it may only bring problems.

Just enough is what is needed, not too much, and not too little.

Question. Does society need lotteries?
Someone will probably come up with the well-worn adage "Life's a lottery", but that wasn't what I'm driving at.
It looks as if Mick F is of a similar mind...

Ah yes, the Co-op is in some sort of financial problem. Perhaps I shouldn't have left working for them in 1970  at least I still get my divi, for the moment at least.

A certain lady PM once said, "There's no such thing as society."

The Thatcher government back then - and later with Major - said that a National Lottery wouldn't happen and they stopped the whole idea in its tracks. It took a Labour government to get it going in the mid 90s. There's not much that I agree about Tory policy, but I agreed with their stance on the lottery idea back then.

Pay off the mortgage, buy my dream bike, give some away, then invest the rest, so I can live off the earnings.

I'd be happy never to have to work again. 8)

But I imagine it's paid out over a period of time? Or maybe a lump sum is worth somewhat less?

These lottery win reports never seem to mention giving money away. It's always new cars and houses.
Rich people always seem to spend a lot of time looking after their money. Both my sisters are millionaires. I've never had a penny off them. I've never asked and don't want or need it anyway. They think I'm a peasant. LOL.
They have both been married and divorced, more than once and never seem to be that happy.
If you had all that money, what fun to give it away. Thats how you should spend your time. Giving it away. Secretly.
My grandson spent a lot of time in Alder Hey hospital. They have a facility there for parents to stay in accommodation to be near their children. It has been built by McDonalds but is run by volunteers. great. But it is not enough, and many worried parents have to try and source B&Bs nearby. Imagine building and outfitting something like that. Great project.
Old ladies counting pennies at the cashout in the supermarket. "here you are love. I'll get that" Brilliant!
Need a new hip? In pain? Can't wait or pay? "Here I'll get that". Imagine? Fun. Thats how to enjoy it.
