Wishbones

It's funny how different themes sometimes all come together.
A couple of days ago I was reading (and contributing) to Mick F's posting about the gigantic lottery win.
Musing later, I was considering what would make me happy, when I recalled that as a child up north, Mum would occasionally be able to afford to give us chicken. If me and my sister were good, Mum would then let us have the wishbone to wish on. Even at such a tender age, when I imagine most kids were wishing for some expensive new toy or something, I always simply wished "to be happy".
I guess I must have gained the largest part of the wishbone on a few occasions because I consider myself to have been moderately happy over the ensuing 50 years or so.
Anyone else remember the wishbones and does anyone still carry out this practice?

And after all that musing, I discover that today is officially "World Happiness Day"

Hope you all had a happy day. :)

I remember too! You had to hold it with your pinky (little finger) in my house - was that the general rule? Greasy fingers after :) Vegetarian now!

Happy on the bike today :D

I wonder what the vegetarian counterpart might be? Slice an avocado in half lengthways, let each kid grab one half and pull, and see who gets the stone...?
I don't think the same trick would work with a mango. Too messy.

I remember pulling wishbones with my brother. We had the pinky finger rule, too. My mum always made us leave them to dry out for a couple of days. We'd have a roast chicken, followed by a couple of days of us pestering mum to do the wishbone. Happy memories. :D

Still do it these days!

We pull with our little fingers and the winner gets the wish .............. but you mustn't tell anyone what you wished for, coz it won't come true if you do!

Not some thing we do as we do not purchase whole Chickens any more.

It would not make any difference to my wish, but it will not come true as I have told so many people. I just keep trying to make it happen.

Absolutely!

Why would anyone stop doing this? It has always worked for me so I'll continue cracking the bone!

Oh Lord, I hope I haven't ruined everything by divulging what I wished for.
Mrs.C said I was miserable all day yesterday. :(

I've never told anybody what I've been wishing for all these years, and it still hasn't come true.

I remember doing this with my sister. We had to wait till it dried out and then ad to use our pinkies.

Dont do it now days as the kids now do it.
