I'd be rather wary of buying a second hand modern tent (ie not fabric) to be honest.
Not saying any of the god folk on here are trying to con anyone but with UV degredation of materials giving tents a limited life, and then the problems of pole fatigue/breakage, I would have thought it more economical to choose the level of tent you are after and then search the web for a sale.
edited - I may have misunderstood the last post - depends how old the for sale tent is - if it's one someone has put on sale after buying and deciding after a quick camp that it's not for them and they have receipts etc, then more of a goer.

Re: Tent advice
Have never bought a tent new... well, I have, just one - the last one, and that only 'cos I couldn't find one s/h! Ironically, 3 weeks after I bought it, one popped up on this very forum, complete with all the extras I wanted. Hey Ho.
I've not had any major problems with wearNtear, and UV degradation in particular, except ironically, with the oldest and most worn of the s/h tents, a cotton Vango F10. The cotton fly was bleached out and near its best-before-date, but it still did me for years and eventually I bought a new fly and still have the tent.
Funnily enough I would be wary of buying a new, cheap tent!

Apologies I was not clear, I meant that if Steve is not happy with the choice he makes, he can always sell it here: well he could have but now everyone has been warned off
I totaly agree about looking for a sale, I picked up my new tent at half price
