governors to limit motor vehicles speeds to speed limits
As a cyclist, as a walker, most of all as a driver, I want to campaign for change. For example, that all motors must be governed and can not exceed the maximum speed limits.
What organisation can I join?

It's unlikely that any single organisation will have your exact wish list. Here's a couple you may wish to consider.
Road Peace: http://www.roadpeace.org.uk
Brake: http://www.brake.org.uk
I'm sure that there are many more to choose from.

Do you mean you want a car that will be governed automatically for all the various speed limits?
Re: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/apr/06/odd
It's only a matter of time and it will be fitted.
GPS will keep the car's speed below the max limit. Seems simple to me to use GPS to control the engine management computer. No doubt you could choose to switch if off if you so wished, but if one were readily available, I'd have one and leave it switched on.
Rather than keeping half an eye on the speedo, I could use both full eyes on the road.

Yes - it's not hard.
Didn't Mr Clarkson drive a sill car round Japan, bemoaning the GPS based speed limiter - which unlimited the car as he drove onto a race track...
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

A great and very simple idea. I've long been in favour of a 70mph limiter fitted to cars as they are to many vans, no reason why you couldn't take it further with gps

Why bother when self-driving cars are on their way?
Bring'em on!

Yes he did, a Nissan GTR.
My Citroen already has a manual limiter you can set. Its brilliant. My wife uses it all the time, and I rather like it for national speed limit roads. You can forget going over the speed limit and drive sensibly and keep your eyes on the road.

Very good question Cyril Haearn but any chance you could change the thread subject? An obscurely named link as the subject ain't that helpful!

Thank you gaz - I'll be having a look at those links.
A link from one of gaz's links - interesting but thoroughly depressing map of pedestrian and cyclist KSIs here; http://www.seemesaveme.com/map/

Can't see the Govt/police going for this. Just think of all the lost revenue in speeding fines!

The technologies been around for a decade and a half but not a whiff of it in real life yet. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/199108.stm
The arguments made against it are the same ones that pilots made against automation. Yet pilot error is responsible for 90% of air accidents and has stayed so with increasing automation of the cockpit. But the number of accidents has fallen dramatically.

My car has a manually set limiter as well. I downloaded a Garmin speed limit app so I could have a constant reminder of what the local speed limit was as they change so often these days between 20,30, 40 & 50mph. But the Garmin database was up the swanee getting the speed limit wrong about 30% of the time.

When I lived in Japan 30 years ago cars were fitted by law with an intensely irritating chime that went off whenever you exceeded the motorway speed limit. It was extremely effective as driving above the limit for even a few minutes would test your aural endurance to the limit.

What lost revenue? The fines are so low, they just about cover the cost of cameras and staff.
