Herts is hardly a tourist magnet? All the YHA have now gone from that part of the world? That must say some thing.

dont know about Herts but in nearby Bucks there is Jordans YHA that allow camping june to sept.

Welders Lane, Jordans, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, HP9 2SN

and seem to allow fires, as the pic shows one!

maybe google by town name with camping?

I think a problem will be the fire?

We recently stayed at Town Farm Camping near Ivinghoe. It's just off the Ridgeway Path and also only about a mile from the Chiltern Cycleway. I think it's in Herts but may be just over the border in Bucks or Beds.

It's about 10 miles west of Luton and not far from Whipsnade Zoo
Sherwood CC and Notts CTC.

+1 for ukcampsite.co.uk.

And Hertfordshire, though not a tourist magnet, has some attractive parts. Both in the west as mentioned above, and east of the A10.

Find a clearing sheltered or covered from the road or people , and camp there. Last time I came up the A10, and jumped into the field next to it, and slept like a log in my tent. Its much more fun and free, compared to a official signposted campsite.

When I said east of the A10, I meant further than a field next to it!

They allow fires at Town Farm Camping, though it is in Bucks, not Herts.

I might add I have never stayed there but I did pop in and have a look long time ago. The camping then if my memory correct not the best - no nice green field etc. But that was some years ago. WHo knows whats it like now. But it would be a great place to rearrange to meet people at, like most yha.

These campsites do look lovely. Wouldn't mind a visit myself.
