Sending a suitcase ahead?

A month or two ago I bought a second-hand Bike Friday New World Tourist, and Mrs F now has her sights on a BF Pocket Crusoe. We're thinking of packing them into suitcases and heading abroad now and then - probably to Europe at first.

We don't really want to do the suitcase-as-trailer thing. So if we do an A-B tour, we'll have to get the (empty) suitcases sent on ahead. (Leaving it at A might be an option if our outward/return flights are the same airport, I guess.)

Does anyone have any experience with this? Can you use poste restante services, or will chain hotels send baggage on to their sister establishments, or... any other bright ideas?

Use battered old suitcases from a charity shop and ditch them on arrival? The difficult part obviously is finding replacement old suitcases for the return leg.

Or do an A-A tour and leave them with a WarmShowers host.

If you stay in a Youth hostel they usually have a store room where you can leave a suitcase..perhaps free or for a small charge.
I once left a bike box in the corridor of Malaga Youth hostel and it was there a fortnight later when i returned..

Here's an account of someone who has just done this in Spain, with BFs too! https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/pag ... 68783&v=6w
