Aldi Self inflating pillow
Aldi Self inflating pillow
Well I got a couple of these today at £2.99 each. Good bargain. I dont know I would call themself inflating - that only took it half way, need a few puffs to get it to a good thickness. But at that price they are fine and seem nicely made also.
Re: Aldi Self inflating pillow
I look forward to the follow up thread.
Re: Aldi Self inflating pillow
some pictures. the dots on the bottom are supposed to stop it slipping and & raised
come in various colours. comes in a little bag. 3 yr warranty. The elastic straps to keep it rolled sewed into the pillow. I had to search for these at Aldi as at the bottom of a bin covered by other stuff. I think a really good buy.

Re: Aldi Self inflating pillow
I had a look at them today. A bit bulky for an inflatable. Seemed quite well made though and 220g isn't too bad though you could just take an extra fleece and stick that under your head.
Re: Aldi Self inflating pillow
I think the trouble with using an extra fleece ( if I understand what you mean by that ) or other textile is that size for size u need a lot of bulk to keep your head at a nice distance from the ground? I didnt think it too bulky - 10" long by diameter of 3"? But then I am not a super light weight camper as I use a trailer.
Re: Aldi Self inflating pillow
You could be right there.
The inflatable pillow I use is about the size of a folded up hankie, weighs under 50g. I think it cost £5 from Decathlon, and has lasted for years. The Aldi one just seems a bit bulky in comparison though even punctured it would still be usable, unlike the Decathlon one. Not bad for the price. You can get an even cheaper and lighter pillow in Poundland, though I doubt it would last long.

Re: Aldi Self inflating pillow
The Aldi pillow seems to be similar thickness material to what a self inflating mat would be made of & should last a very long time& take a bit of abuse. The only downside is that the dimpled side could be hard to repair if it is punctured. I think the size/weight issue only of concern for backpackers or for very light cycle campers. I wasnt actually expecting much for £2.99. Glad I was suprised.
I had a look at Decathlon website, it seems the ALdi pillow very comparable in packed size to the ones they sell now at 1/3 of the price
eg

or a cheaper one that looks a bit fragile & is just blow up?

Haven't tried it for sleeping yet, but it seems alright for the price. Bit bulky as others have said, but not excessively.
The problem I have with using a fleece or similar is that it tends to snake out in the night.

You need a pillow? What's wrong with your shoes and a jersey?

I used to do some thing like that put clothes etc in the mat bag but was too big and needed to much stuff to fill for a decent bulk. Also too hard with bits sticking in face.
Re: Aldi Self inflating pillow
The blow-up Quecha is the one I've got. It only takes a few puffs to blow up. It's thin but fairly durable and easy to clean.
Re: Aldi Self inflating pillow
I think the thing with pillows and to a lesser extend mats is that they need to "give" quite a bit? Thats why the cheap blow up mats so uncomfortable? (if u dont blow them up fully u roll around?) The best type of pillow would be a bean bag type that moulds to the head but never the less gives firm support? The foam in the aldi is probably the nearest u can get if you deflate the pillow a bit?

DaleFTW how much? if its more than £2.99 forget it. I had thought about using the little stuff bag that m/c helmets come in. Just about the right size and price ( free )
