Mick F, that's a fine colour. 20 years ago, I had JF Wilson build me a frame in Ishiwata 017 tubing in Sheffield. I still have that frame, but want it repainted. Now, my frame looks very much like the colour of yours. My paint job was like a gold base layer, which then had darkish red transparent lacquer/varnish on top. Is that the kind of thing that yours is?

Does anyone else know if you can get what I've described done still? If so, where?

Cheers.

Oh yes, that's a fab paint job you're having done. I know you'll enjoy it!

glad to hear the baby's coming home soon. Please tell us you're not going to take it out this winter and expose it to all the muck and grime. Get some mudguards shoehorned into the vitus.

We're off to Derby tomorrow to collect my Frame.

Please remember that I can't call it 'Bike' because the only things still extant after 21 years are the seat pin, and the stem and 'bars!

I've never had more than one bike at a time. I know that loads of cyclists have Summer Bikes and Winter Bikes, I've only ever had One Bike. I commuted for many years: wind, hail, rain, frost, sun, the lot. I've been around the world with it. It spent many years with me on RN ships, I've cycled in many countries and continents. http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t ... +countries

I've cycled JOGLE and LEJOG-and-Back on it. Goodness knows how many miles we've done together.

My Mercian Vincitore has braved it all since 1986 and will continue to do so for many years yet.

I've managed to keep cycling over the last 6 weeks by using a wonderful Vitus frame I bought as a complete bargain and transfered all my Bits onto it - wheels, the lot. The Vitus frame has been absolutely fantastic - if I was in the market for another frame, this would be the one I'd choose.

But Saturday will be a solemn occasion, picking up Frame from the Mercian shop. I look forward to it immensely, and I will be shedding tears of joy.

Don't even ask the cost!

Can you have a "relationship" with a frame?

Weeeell, sexually... after recent headlines, you have to ask?

Theres nothing wrong with investing in the future of an old friend. It looks great. I particularly admire the headtube area, really makes the most of some very fine lugs. Jealous.

Now you're going to muck it up by attaching other bits and then riding it! Or are you just going to look at it for a while?

I cuddled and stoked Frame during the evening, then gazed in awe and wonder from a distance.

I've spent a few hours today fitting the stuff on, and will carry on tomorrow.
I've paused now - been down the pub for a couple or three ..........

Mercian at its best. Is the colour red flam?
I love the multi-colour seat tube. They used to show that in one of their older catalogues with a price as I recall, but it's not in the most recent. I presume it's very expensive to do. Still that frame will last you a very long time. My 1988 Vincitore cost £200 to renovate with only two colours - mind you I only paid £85 for it second/hand!.
All the best with it.

Ruby Flamboyant. No7.

Bought new in 1986, just short of £300.
Renovated in the same colour scheme, with a few engineering jobs done - £400. If I say it fast, it's ok. But don't ask me to repeat it!
