Ease of drinking

Post by freeflow »

I've been reviewing how much I drink whilst riding and come to the conclusion I need to drink a lot more. The problem is that water is actually quite hard to drink even when forcing liquid from a bottle. I think this is a surface ternsion or viscosity thing as beer is generally much easier to swallow because the alcohol content lowers surface tension/viscosity compared to water. So I was wondering how to experiment lowering surface tension/viscosity in my energy drinks (given that the sugars probably increase surface tension/viscosity. What additives (apart from vodka) could I use?

I agree, I find it hard to chug down water, where as the same glass of water with a drop of squash can be gone in about 5 seconds.

I wonder if it's hard water that is like this? Because ours is on the hard side.

One consideration: I carry water in my water bottle. I would much rather carry orange squash but I will not ride around with a bottle showing liquid the colour of orange squash - looking a bit like I was "caught short" after drinking the water it originally contained (and could not find a suitable hedge to use).

Pink grapefruit squash is my preference. Looks perfectly Ok in a bottle. IMHO it also tastes better than orange squash.

Really? I couldn't care less what folks think is in the bottle, apart from that my bottle isn't clear so they can't see what is in it, but the last thing I would care about putting in a bottle is what some random Joe would think when looking at it.

If your urine is such a dark shade of orange that it looks like orange squash then you're not drinking enough.

Washing up liquid?

Seriously though, I have this problem more when the water's really cold. If it's warm, it goes down easily. But when it's cold and cold weather I'm usually perspiring less, so it seems to balance out.

However, there's one thing that does wind me up with the whole drinking thing and that is I'm not very good at cycling with anything like a full bladder. It gets better once I'm properly warmed up, but it may lead to me not drinking quite as much as I should.

I see my posts have been edited. Again.

If you ops are going to start editing my posts if they go slightly off topic, then edit everyone else's.
This is starting to feel like target practice.

What I don't like Graham, is my posts being edited without reason. The last post which was edited did not break any rules whatsoever. It was a minor misunderstanding between another forum member and myself. No insults were fired and no unnecessary language was used. It was a pointless edit for no other reason than someone has a bee in their bonnet and in my opinion, abuse of his/her mod powers. End of.
