I didn't find any mention of it measuring metabolic rate.
Isn’t Metabolism, as far as us cyclists are interested in it, about converting food to energy? Unless I’ve misunderstood, the ZOE app is all about measuring how that happens, on an individual basis, meal by meal. I’m not sure exactly what units it uses, but what with it having a good look at your blood (and optionally, your poo…) I’m sure it can draw some useful conclusions.
Unless the ZOE punters are recording every calorie they eat, all their exercise, and their daily weight I don't see what they're measuring that will tell them what their met rate is. The gold standards for 'proper' measurements are either doubly labelled water, or oxygen consumption using a gas analyser aren't they?
If people are interested in the relationship between exercise and met rate I'd still recommend the ACSM Compendium. It's all peer reviewed science, and having compared it against my own log of calories, exercise and weight, it looks as good as or better than any other DIY alternative.

If that was all fat gain that would amount to an excess calorie intake of 14,000kcal.

Just wrote a long answer to JDSK and it disappeared
The abridged version now, I did a write up of menu and weight gain in Arrive 30 years ago.
Food was mostly home cooked/ baked the whole way round. Especially the finish where I was at the back of the field and made a valiant attempt of cleaning everything up. Especially, my weakness , fruit cake.
I would imag8ne most of that weight was in my stomach just like Xmas day

That's what (and JDSK?) was getting at. At 500g/1000kcal, 3,600kcal of Tesco's breaded haddock would weigh about 4lb.

Good question, and "Yes".
