Computer batteries

Post by professorlandslide »

I've got a cateye wireless computer - the first battery in it lasted about a year - now i put a new one in and it lasts about a month at most... Is the computer just broken, or should i be using higher quality batteries?

Other than that, any recommendations for a basic computer that's good for a folder? I just really want speed and distance, not bothered about cadence or calories or any of that stuff...

My computers are wired, but I replace the batteries at the watch repairers in the local market hall. He says there are some better than others & there's a slight price difference but I've not had any bother.

Interesting, I had a microwireless and had exactly the same problem. First battery lasted 4 months then progressively shorter intervals until I gave up. Initially, batteries (£2 each) were bought from various shops and then I got through 8 out of a box of 10 bought online (79p each).

I've had a cateye strada for a month now and so far I am really impressed. I went for the wired version this time.

Using Exide CR2032, ca 4 years on the transmitter and 3 on the receiver. Latter replaced today at 2.62 volts, new batt 3.27 volts. Always worth checking voltage of "new" when you buy. If not over 3.25, take it back as it is probably past it's shelf life.

Sounds like it's broken. Happens to all of them sooner or later: corrosion or vibration causes a bit of a short-circuit somewhere so they start eating batteries. Cat-Eye are normally reasonbly weather/shake proof, I guess you've been unlucky.
