Russian Visa

Member John Lewis has asked me to advise members of his recent experiences trying to get a visa for Russia:
"The Russian Consulate in Lappeenranta, Finland, have just refused me a Russian travel visa because the pages of my passport have been damaged ( by perspiration when cycling with my passport in a money belt) which, they say, means that the visa stamps will not be clear enough.
Please advise other members of this reason for visa refusal.
This is not a problem to me on this occassion as the visit to St Petersburg was a 'bonus' on another trip and I am actually returning to Helsinki by train.
However if I was heading south by bicycle before the bad weather closes in......(there is frost on the ground here by 5.15pm already)
