It actually works!!!!

Post by Stradageek »

Came upon two lovely Latvian teenage boys one of whom had just crashed his brand new cheapo MTB.

Managed to get him one working brake by swapping front and rear cables from the snapped (plastic) brake lever but then discovered the front wheel was so bent it wouldn't rotate through the forks.

I warned him that I'd only ever seen this done on Youtube before taking said wheel finding the high spot and banging it hard on the ground! Result; a wheel that whilst not totally true was easily good enough for the ride home.

Who'd have thunk it!

Slightly OT

coming home one night and came across two young lads walking MTBs

One had a dérailleur that had snapped and gone into back wheel.

They had several miles to go, so after a few minutes there was a "single speed" , and a shopping bag with the mangled dérailleur, and the chain links that I had removed.

Gave the young man my business card in case of issues

Following day had call from irate parent on the grounds that I had damaged his son's bike and wanted me to pay for a new chain and repairs!

I insisted that we ask the local bike shop for their opinion.

Fortunately they agreed unequivocally that I had done no damage, that I had in fact done the right thing to get his son home

Hi,
Hit a parked car on way to work :? bent frame could not turn wheel past bent frame :(
Took off wheel and put forks in back of pavement bench slats, heaved and managed to rebend frame, put wheel on and rode to work.
Rode some months like that and one day I had a rubber feeling frame as down tube fractured, rode home down 1:6 hill with hand on brake and other hand holding tube ends together, bought new frame :)
Steel will always be real.
