I thoroughly enjoyed it and was doing enough miles that I didn't feel any particular need to get out at the weekend on a regular basis. There was pleasure in the commute and interest didn't wane because that daily ride had a purpose.
I retired 18 months ago and moved slightly south to the Cotswolds. I loved it, and last year's (summer) weather saw me out and about 5 times a week. Varied routes and distances from 10 miles to 100 miles. This year, having been entered for my first ever sportive (The Cairn O'Mount) by my daughter, I've been focussed on that and so my interest levels were high.
BUT...... that came and went about a month ago and I've found myself in a "lull". I'm not getting out as much, despite the good weather. Other things are keeping me occupied and stimulated.
Anyone else ever suffer from "lulls" and what's the cure?

I think group rides are down to individual taste. For some they are great, for others not so good. Personally I love going out alone; I go where I want, at each junction decide left or right (longer or shorter route - depending on weather, tiredness, time, etc.). I go faster or slower as I wish rather than as determined by others. I swerve to avoid potholes without worrying about any riders alongside, etc. But I can see there are aspects of group rides that are fun (e.g. sociability), but for me I think I get more out of being alone (sad ?).
Each to their own as what appeals.

I know the feeling of being a bit jaded, but for me it's because I get bored just riding. I like to have a purpose or a destination.
Went out early yesterday and cycled past Looe, through Fowey and ended up eventually at a vintage vehicle rally the other side of St Austell, then cycled in to St Austell and caught a train most of the way home, to be back for lunch. Now that was much more interesting than a set route and all at my own pace, my mind just running free, well, wandering actually.
The only bit I like about group cycling is the sociability at stops or, mainly, at the end. Being by yourself is a sort of freedom.

+1
It's the main reason I cycle. Freedom - ride where and when I want, at a pace I want, and think what I want.
