CTC Membership Woes

Post by 700c »

Well, I've had so much trouble over the past year of being a member that I've just about given up with the CTC.

After the migration to "a new computer system" my details got deleted. Had I not noticed that I was no longer receiving a quarterly magazine, I'd never have known. After about 8 emails & at least 5 phone calls, some kind person set me up a new membership number. That was in June of this year.

Since then I've still not received any magazines, and cannot log into the CTC membership site. I've emailed about 12 times in the last 2 months - with zero response. I tried the 0870 number but it just rings and rings, no answer.

So, where to? How do I go about getting what I've paid for? I have a membership card in front of me that say I'm valid member upto the end of 06/2008, yet I have not received any of the CTC benefits for at least a year.

My questions;

Is there an email address which is answered in a decent time-frame?

Or does someone have a direct contact bypassing the 0870 which does not ever seem to be answered.

Or (and this would be utopia) does anyone who works for the CTC and has some clout with the "membership dept" also use this forum, and can sort out the problems (if I gave them my CTC membership number)?

Thanks in advance!

Many people have had similar problems.

One solution that might be tried would be to go to the ACF forum ( http://www.anothercyclingforum.com/index.php ), scroll down to "Miscellany" and into the "CTC Corner" section and ask Simon L3 to help you out. Although membership is not his responcibility, he is a councilor and has helped others out before.

Also, go to the CTC website contacts and email Kevin Maine direct and tell him how unhappy with the membership dept you are.

If you can't log on to the CTC website, how did you manage to post on here?

I recently rejoined the CTC after a couple of years absence and had a simialr problem. a quick phonecall to the membership dept sorted it though.

Si; Many thanks. I'll try to get the CTC again next week. If that's no good, I'll see if I can get the other Simon on the case. Many thanks.

TrevA; this forum has no relation to the ID/Surname combo that you need to use on https://www.ctc.org.uk/account/login.aspx

The geographical number is 01483 238300.

To find alternative numbers to 0870 and 0845 try:-

You could always do what we did,not pay your membersip fee and get the same 'benefits' you're getting at present.

PS funny how everything went so wrong when the 'club' went corporate.

Thanks Jules :)

OK, here's the latest...

Today I managed to speak to the Membership Dept.

My original account started 10/06. This was "lost" approx 03/07. I noticed this approx 08/07 and rang in to get it sorted. At that time, a NEW account was set up to run until 06/08 (extra months free in order to make up the time lsot on my original). The ORIGINAL account could not be found.With me so far?

So, as far as I know I have a NEW CTC membership upto approx 06/08, and a NEW membership number - which I have the card (in fact 2 of them!) here on my desk;

Card 1: Valid Until: 23/06/2008
Card 2: Valid Until: 01/07/2008

So, as you can see I should have CTC member ship until about the end of next June. OK, so over the past months, I've noticed I've not been receiving the magazine - I like the magazine, it's a good read. So I spent some time emailing and phoning without reply (hence the first post in this thread)...

OK, so this morning I was able to call in and speak with someone (didn't get her name unfortunately). As it turns out, my ORIGINAL membership was subsequently "found", and the NEW membership was cancelled! Hence, I am not a CTC member anymore as the ORIGINAL membership expired 10/07 (just a few days ago in fact). With me still?

So, the upshot is that I have a membership card that says I am a member upto 01/07/2008. And the computers at CTC say "no".

So, after a bit of moaning, I am having my ORIGINAL membership re-opened and extended upto the end date of the NEW membership. And having some back-issues of the Magazine sent to me. And, I should apparently be able to log into the CTC website from tomorrow as the membership database and the login database are only updated once every 24 hours.

Ho hum! At least things are no progressing.

Membership Woes

Glad you are getting somewhere at last. Without a membership no. or postcode I am unable to take a look and see where things have gone wrong but hope is all sorted out now.

Just to let everyone know, I e-mailed the club with three or four queries two days ago, and I received a full, concise and satisfactory reply today.

Now I call that OK.

Thanks.

Just received email from Membership Dept to let me know that I now have a NEWER account, as they could not make changes to my ORIGINAL accountt. At least I got some response from them, so I'm happy enough now.

So;

ORIGINAL account. Now defunct as past it's renewal date.
NEW account. Cancelled, and merged with ORIGINAL.
NEWER account. Set up with end date the same as the NEW account.

~

I guess it wouldn't have made sense that when the NEW and the ORIGINAL was merged, the ORIGINAL couldn't just have been extended to the same end-date as the NEW. Too logical by half!

Never mind, we all make mistakes.

Repeat of previous problems

The previous time the CTC changed the membership computer system the same happened. We had me, the wife and 2 kids as members. It was never sorted and only I continued as a member. Just more money they club didn't get.
