Sturmey Archer trike drum dynamo hub..

Hi all.

I have read that Sturmey Archer revealed at interbike in 2013 a hub for trikes that was both a drum brake (70mm X - SDD with a 90mm XL - SDD on the way) and dynamo. I'm very interested as a hub dynamo is the only thing I'm missing on my ICE trike. I would also prefer not to loose my drum brakes.

I not seeing and other information though and certainly not anywhere to purchase one. Has anyone else come across anything?

Cheers Ed

I'd contact SA directly, they're quite responsive.

Looks brilliant, but 3 years late for me...
ICE ought to get some in actually - or at least have some available...

Ideally I'd get a pair of these and a CSRK-3 at the rear - great range, loads of electrickerey and stopping power... If only they did a csrk-3 with a roller/drum brake...

I'd buy one like a shot. At the moment I'm using battery lights on my Trice but really like the convenience of the hub dynamo on my Kett. No way am giving up the drum brakes!

If they'd been around when I bought my trike I'd have stuck with drums too, but I now have disks, and a SON.

I wonder how hard/easy it would be to convert back to drums?

Unfortunately SA's website really doesn't work on my phone so I can't scroll down to what I presume there is I.e. a UK contact. Its good to hear that they are responsive as I really want one. Actually as you said Bob, a pair would be magic. Daytime running lights and charging/running other items and keeping drums! Possibly also a pair of headlights mounted on the mudguards? Bring on night time. Best of both worlds.

For me this would complete my trike. Otherwise I will have to go to SON and discs.

Hope you don't mind me asking Bob but did you sort your SON out yourself or with ICE? I would also be interested to have some idea of cost?

Cheers Ed

Thanks for that. That's the bit I couldn't scroll down.

Unfortunately, not being able to scroll down I contacted the details shown above (one I could read) a few days ago but have heard nothing. I very much want one of those hubs so after I have emailed again I will call them.

Cheers Ed

I've got a sneaky feeling this might be vapourware. I seem to recall that they had difficulties getting the electricity out past the brakes, or something complicated like that…

At any rate I think if they did reach production they would be flying off the shelves (in relative terms - we are talking recumbent trikes here!) particularly for velomobile riders. But perhaps that relatively tiny market limits desire to go into production, particularly as most other recumbent trikes use disk rather than drum brakes.

Sort of, but not quite... That's a 'double sided' hub, to go in normal bike forks. The new hub is single side mounting for the front wheel of trikes. If it exists!

"vapourware" I like it. Starting to think you may be right. Still no word.

This is the link I first read about it at. A post from a top dog at Greenspeed no less.

Ohhh interesting. I notice that it says "Only some items on stock - order quickly!" rather than "Ready for shipping" like other products, so maybe it's not actually available yet? I'm concerned by the lack of official info on these hubs.
