Round here the boy racers are the ones to watch out for.
TBH I rarely have problems with either,4x4's are a different matter entirely though, especially for close overtaking in the face of oncoming traffic if I don't close any hint of a gap they think they can force their way through

.
I find it's what I call "the Road Owners"; which include new'ish top of the range SUVs, many 4x4's, BMWs, Audis, etc. But they have to be pretty new, high end models.

I'm sure 'research' can be found to prove anything. Every time I go out I wonder if you can ever pin down any of the stereotypes, but, never get any consistent results. Any of the big flash cars can be a problem, on the other hand, I feel a lot of them give me plenty of room, 'cos they wouldn't like the lower orders scratching their paintwork! White van men might appear to be a problem, but, as there are roughly ten times more of them than other vans you are much more likely to come across a [rude word removed] occasionally. I do think what you wear really has a much greater bearing on how you are treated than any other single factor. From my simple experiments wearing an assortment of clothes, I reckon, and I have done repeat trials! That shorts, tee shirt and floppy sun hat definitely gets me the most clearance by a measurable degree. Cultivating the surprised wobble also comes in handy.....

Good point.
I go out dressed as a luminous banana.
HiVis Jacket if chilly or a HiVis vest over my shirt if warm.
Someone else mentioned the Daily Mail on here and the DM's Richard Littlejohn has been conducting a one man campaign against wearers of HiVis apparel for some time.
Maybe HiVis is the new 'red rag to a bull'' in consequence ( amongst DM readers of course).

James May has also questioned the over-use of hi-viz. He is probably somewhat more eloquent than Littlejon (and I entirely agree with him) and the subject that is
not even that contentious.

It used to be BMW drivers but my experience is they've been overtaken by Audi drivers these days.

Yep, only scallies buy BM's these days, Audi's are the new BMW.

Interesting piece on HiVis that.
I had wondered if I was giving some drivers a more visible aiming point.

I few years ago Audi ran TV adverts suggesting their cars were for responsible drivers, not those aggressive types in BMWs. Oh how times have changed

I wonder if Audi is embarrassed by the image they have now

Why should they worry so long as they're selling cars.

Hey! Stop generalising!
I have a BMW.
I also have (currently) 5 bikes in the garage that the BMW never gets to go in. I also estimate that I've done about twice as many miles on bikes this week as the BMW has travelled..... the brake discs have gone red.
......in my estimation some of the least cycle-friendly and cyclist-aware drivers are female. (now there's a generalised can of worms)

I reckon women are more considerate drivers than most men.
Anyone stops to let me out it's generally a woman.
Not to generalise though, there are planks of all persuasions as well.
