WD40
Re: WD40
I have used Ballistol for a number of years on the drive chain components and found it to offer good lubrication qualities.
It can be used on wood, leather, rubber to good effect. Google the name to discover it's many uses and interesting history.

Perhaps we may now debate that cheap chains are cheaper than more expensive chains.
Buy cheap, buy twice?
TF2 chain lube at £4 per 450ml aerosol can, does the job and lasts a long time(nearly a year),the same size can at £16.45 would need to do four times the job.
I'm not saying it can't,I'm saying it would need to,to be worth the money, even on a cheapskate chains

And the difference in price would buy you a new Shimano chain. It would have to be a pretty spectacular lube to make it cost effective over a more frequent chain replacement on that basis.

You'd be wasting money on a Shimano chain IME,Sram are much better

In what way? I bet in a blind test you couldn't tell the difference on the bike.

I've had a lot of premature wear with Shimano chains in the past, they work OK but wear fast IME,some people reckon they've improved but I don't like the joining pin system either,so I'd have to buy a Sram Powerlink anyway.
Sram 971 free Powerlink £10 CRC = 4.5 to 5k miles no worries

It is fine on the chain but I find it dries out fairly quickly so I generally use other products.
There is now WD specific cycle products but I haven't seen any in the shops yet:-

Had them round the shop a couple of weeks ago - even their chap agreed it shouldn't be used as a bike lube hence the new stuff. From what he was saying it will be similar to the stuff Fenwicks and Park put out with pricing between the two - watch this erm space as they say!
Convention? what's that then?
