Exal LX17 rear wheel for Dawes 1- Down
Exal LX17 rear wheel for Dawes 1- Down
any opinions that this would be a good replacement ( wheel ) for my cracked Mavic X138 rimmed wheel on my Dawes 1-Down? This is 559x17 ( double eyelet & 100 grms heavier than X138) as is my Mavic X138. Or is it too light for such a bike that might be carrying loads? The other alternative is a Sputnik ( 630 grms ) but is I think 559x19?.

I'm sure Colin is the best person to give an answer, but I would have thought, judging by reports of X138, both are better than what you have. I have Exal 700 LX17 and 26" ML21 rims and all have been good (to date anyway). I have rear panniers, but the load is not usually great. Sputnik may be a bit stronger, but depends on your weight and what sort of load.

Hi,
I am a lover of mavic, but I only use double eyelets......................
Sputnics are meant to be good so I bought some for my spare touring wheels and they are deep man.

I have been running this rim (32 hole, VNT hubs) on my Yukon for quite some time now and I can say that I've had no problems when loaded and they have served me well on long rides in the comfort department. If one of my rims cracked, I'd go out any buy another Exal LX17 again. (And not just because it matched
