The £85 is the HP, by the way. I don't mind being insulted online, but I must point out that I did not enter into this lightly.
I noticed in the debate nobody really questioned the price of the public transport.
When I was travelling to Rochdale from Liverpool, the journey was farther but cost £24 LESS. This was also only on Northern Rail [ bikes allowed all day].
Because I had to change to the tram there was little discount. Transport is integrated in connection only.

After another week I really think I HAVE made the wrong decision . My blood sugar is up and my trousers feel just a little bit tighter. The M62 is an unpredictable pig. I miss falling asleep on the train or chatting with the regulars. I get no coffee in Victoria or Piccadilly. Radio 4 is too serious and repetitive and DJ'S drive me bonkers, especially the one in the afternoon who talks all over the records.
However, I have committed myself and if I sell the car I will lose a lot of money on depreciation as one correspondent noted. Oh dear.

Cycle about 8500 mile per annum, motor about 4000.

I've got a low road tax, feeble, small car and I reckon I'm the only non-OAP in the country who has got one.

I did last until I was 33 before buying a car, a full 15 years after passing my test.

How could they? No starting point was given. It also seems to be current government policy to focus on choking demand through high prices, rather than increase supply of public transport.

And if you're anything like me, then your cholesterol will be up too. Sorry you've got buyer's remorse (chooser's remorse?). At least I can help a bit with the radio: find some way to download podcasts that you like (there are music ones as well as factual) and connect them to the car stereo (FM transmitter, possibly). That's what I did when I commuted by car because radio in Norfolk is pretty limited, although we used to get a few good AM stations from mainland Europe at certain times.

Audible books are brilliant for long bus or train rides. Take the strain off your eyes and just sit back and relax.
You can even get a book on a free trial + there are quite a few free books as well
