Pedal clearance.... Rebuilt bike

Hi all

I just had a replacement frame for my Marin Point Ryes (medium size) which broke..... The replacement frame was a Marin Palisade Trail (medium size).
Concern is the clearance between the pedals and floor.... Is there a standard (safe) distance as one pedal hit the floor today..... which was a bit of a concerned!
Would appreciate any ideas or comments
Regards
Mike

although the BB height tends to vary with type of bike, there is no standard per se; the actual clearance varies when cornering depending on the size of the pedals and the length of the cranks. Of course if you fit different tyres this affects things too.

My advice is to find out how much clearance you have and ride accordingly.

If the clearance isn't enough, think about changing any of the above. Pedals are probably easiest.

cheers

What forks are you using?
If you have fitted short travel forks (or rigid forks which mimic the length of short-travel forks) to a frame designed for long-travel forks, you will have a low bottom bracket.

Hi

You don't say which model / year you have, but on the Marin website the 2012 Point Reyes has a rigid fork (without a BB height specified in the geometry) http://www.marinbikes.com/ww/bikes/description/2012-point-reyes-29er-int

The Palisades Trail has a suspension fork and a 317mm (12.5") BB height http://www.marinbikes.com/us/bikes/description/2014-palisades-trail-se-29er
You might need to query this with your supplier for the reason suggested by 531colin

that is a good point about the crown height. I guess you could lose around 1" of BB height that way.

cheers

Many thanks for the replies.....appreaciated it.

My bike was this one http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/ ... -09-33751/

and as mentioned the frame broke and Marin supplied a replacement frame from this bike

http://www.marinbikes.com/us/bikes/desc ... rail-deore

As mentioned on frist trip out on cycle paths the pedals made contact with the ground a few things which was something which never happened on my old point ryes.

Appreciate any comments or views.

Thanks

Mike

if I copied the right images, then they made a schoolboy error.....those 2 forks are not interchangeable, they are very different lengths.

When are the pedals hitting the ground, every pedal stroke or only when turning/cornering?

If it's only when cornering, adjust your pedals so the inner pedal is at the highest point.

Nah, lazy distributor: they didn't have a spare of the right type available
