Sad.
We shall all miss him.

I used to play Stranger on the Shore on my tenor recorder. Not played it for many years, so maybe pick it up again.

RIP indeed. That 'Stranger on the shore' tune seemed to be played on the radio on every single Sunday morning of my childhood.

I remember the serial it came from, too.

I'm always in awe of the musicians who grace us with their music way beyond their need to earn a crust. I guess it would be like expecting Picasso to have stopped painting, or Bertrand Russell to have stopped thinking. There are plenty of American blues musicians still giving me pleasure.

They showed a short clip of Stranger on the Shore on TV news. Very mellow, soothing, instantly recognisable playing. He will be missed.

Me too. IIRC it concerned an au pair girl, living with an English family in the early 1960s, she feels lonely and falls into bad company, and is involved in misdemeanours including TWOC'ing a car which is then involved in a hit-and-run. Stranger on the shore indeed! Can't remember much else, can anyone do better?

I remember that the paterfamilias was that mustachio'd mostly-bald bloke with two wee tufts of hair remaining over his forehead. Richard Vernon (had to look that up).

Bernard Stanley Bilk to give him his full name. Acker is Somersetish for mate as I found out tonight on the local news which covers Pensford and Bristol.
