Can anyone tell me where to find cycle routes around west yorkshire and north derbyshire. Both me and my wife are relatively new to MTB. Help please.

Do a Google and type in Mountain Biking around West Yorkshire and Peak District and you get loads of information.

North Derbyshire, plenty of good riding in Hope, Edale areas, likewise options around Derwent Reservoir from Fairholmes visitor centre.

There are options around Holmfirth area, though often difficult without making a really long loop. However linking reserviors above Holmbridge with middle bridleway across to Meltham, road to Marsden and then return by the mainly PW trail up the Wessenden Reservoirs is a decent introduction.

Cut Gate, the old packhorse route goes from Langsett (plenty of car parking) to Ladybower Reservoir. Best in a dry spell. Lots of tracks round Marsden, above the Holme Valley, south round Hayfield, north towards Ted Hughes country. For MTBing you're spoilt for choice.
I believe the local CTC brought out a book a few years ago in conjunction with the Examiner called something like (unsurprisingly) Cycling around Huddersfield, though that may be road routes.

Colne Valley Cycles in Linthwaite are a hardcore mountain bike shop and they'll probably let you know of plenty of places to ride.

I emailed your query to my dad, who's lived in Huddersfield nearly all of his life, and is a keen mountain biker. I apologise for the brusqueness of the response - he's Yorkshire through and through - but it was "If he can't find anything round Holme Moss he should find another hobby."

So, er, Holme Moss might be worth a try.
