With international postage the chances of things going missing increases many times. often companies are forced to replace lost items at their cost, so the high rates for international postage probably have an element of this factored in so that if one in say 20 shipments doesn't arrive the company can replace it without it becoming so bad they go under.
I have worked outside UK for many years now. Every year family used to send birthday cards, Christmas cards and various parcels. Around 80% or more never arrived. Some were even sent registered and were supposedly signed for. God knows who signed because I didn't.

And yet Rose post stuff from Germany for a flat rate of under £6.50 even large stuff like wheels and it doesn't matter how much you order. They post stuff all over Europe for similar or lower prices.

Re: Ludicrous postal charges
I think with Rosebikes if you sign up to their email newsletter you get a 10 euro discount code. I can't remember if you need to spend 50 euro's plus to use that but once used they tend to send further ones at regular intervals. I've tended to wait until I've several costly items, i.e. 2 tyres plus tubes plus tools befor ordering to get the benefit. Having said that even with their postal charge the prices are so low you still save money.
On an aside ( yes another one ) I receieved a royal mail calling card.... "we could not deliver this item as the sender under paid postage". Yes by 11p, it was a standard size birthday card with a first class stamp, so I had to go online pay 11p plus £1 admin charge for it to be released( good birthday that, not the first time either ). Quite petty and time wasting as anyone seeing the envelope would automatically think it was covered by a standard first class stamp. It seems we have to be our own post office counter when sending cards and letters nowadays.

£7.60 at the moment but goes down to £5.05 if you spend over £150.

However their price on the website in Sterling is as I posted.
I wasnt able to get the Europrice for a UK address even when trying to pay with a German Credit Card.

Version I'm looking at gives prices in Euros and says plus 8.95 Euro postage to the UK. Just added something to basket, gone to checkout and it comes up with 8.95 euros with http://www.rosebikes.com then tried http://www.rosebikes.uk and it comes up with £7.60......

I think you can select currency using the pull down menu at the top right just next to login, I've used euro and sterling... but paid sterling as it converts at the correct rate.
Once selected I think if cookies are enabled then you don't need to think about it again, so you could use either site with either currency.
