Broken Colnago C50 carbon fibre/fiber frame
A few days ago I got it a bit wrong and had a slow speed crash into a soft hedge. The result? A few scratches on me from the brambles, both wheels undamaged, and my lightly used 9 month old Colnago C50 frame snapped in two places like a few, cheap matches. I am astonished that such a light impact could cause such devastating damage. Like the frame, my confidence in Colnago is shattered. Had the frame been steel I am in no doubt that I would have been able to continue cycling without a second thought. In case you’re wondering I’m only 160 pounds.

Ouch!!??!! I bet your wallet felt it??
But you are right, I have toyed with CF but feel that the expense is too much if they break and I have to replace it.
Many years ago when it was first used in fishing rods, it was recommended that you did not stratch it as this would become a weak point. I know that technology has moved on, but from your experience it does make you think.
I do hope that you can get it replaced, what about the warranty??

Re:Broken Colnago C50 carbon fibre/fiber frame
Yes my wallet hurts alright! I bought the bike 'as new' - but s/h - in February while I was working away in France from a thoroughly reputable Italian seller on eBay. He bought the bike in October in Italy and got the size wrong. It was in beautiful condition when it arrived and when I set off on Friday morning for a spin here in the UK. The Colnago warranty says it's not transferable. I've no idea if that is legally defensible but I don't have the resources to take on that battle so I don't expect anyone but me will be bearing the cost/loss

I guess it also has implications for folk with carbon fibre forks. I must say I have my doubts every time I approach a cattle grid!

Colnago are being very professional and businesslike. I will be meeting with the UK distributors next week to work out a solution to this situation and I am confident that we will be able to agree something that we can all live with.
