Does cycling make it worse? If so, can you modify the way you squeeze the brakes or manipulate the shifter so you're not working as hard with the painful finger?

As a retired physio I wouldn't dream of discussing treatments with someone I hadn't examined, but a safe approach before you consider treatment would be to try to identify specific activities that increase the pain, then moderate or adapt or avoid those activities for several weeks to see if the pain will subside on its own. The principle is to rest the finger but not — at this stage, anyway — immobilize it. Continue to move it in your normal activities, but try to avoid working it hard.

Good luck with this, and let us know how you get on.
