ElliptiGo mudguards

Well I've gone a bit crazy and bought a second hand Elliptigo. Weirdly fun but then I am primarily a runner (who likes weird things). ;-)

For riding at this time of year it really could do with a rear mudguard to keep the chain (and my back) a bit cleaner. It's a 20" wheel but there's frame clearance for an 11" radius (22" diameter) guard. As there are no obvious hanger points I'll be lashing something on with black cable ties.

Can anyone suggest a guard that would be suitable for such a small wheel. Nothing too fancy but preferably no pink "my little pony" ones either. ;-)

They're actually quite fun - I had a go on one which turned up to a local event.

As I'm not a runner I wouldn't want to go far on one...

Cheers but they look awfully similar to some I've already tried. http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/sks-junior-f ... prod13357/ Not bad but a bit big and needed a fair bit of hacking about. Maybe yours are smaller though.

I shall look into it further.

Surprisingly capable over longer distances. Surprising because there's no doubt that you use significantly more energy. On the plus side, no sore bum or wobbly legs when you get off. ;-)

Longest ride I've done to date is about 27 miles which was easy. The 11 speed version is also a very capable hill climbing machine. I am a runner and tentative personal early evidence is that it really does help with running fitness in a way that cycling doesn't seem to.

A couple of lads finished London Edinburgh London on elliptigos last year:

It became a bit of community power thing willing them on.

Amazingly they even advertise trailers and a host of other accessories on their website. No mudguards though. Really, what has the world got against mudguards *sigh*.

if you have no eyelets maybe you need some of these;

The ones above (axiom axle runners) are meant for use with a QR so would need drilling out for solid axles. But it isn't that difficult to make your own either.

[edit these alloy mudguards; http://www.freemanscycles.co.uk/spencer-atb-alloy-mudguards.html come in 20" size. I have found that these mudguards (which I have had in 700C size) can be gently reshaped by hand; squeezing them width-wise slightly increases their diameter, and flattening them slightly will similarly reduce it. This way they can be made an exact fit with no strain on the mountings. ]

cheers

what about a simple crud catcher. they tend to be quite wide and don't need fixing bolts/holes.

there's loads of different types on the market. here's a couple :

Cheers. Most sites I looked at didn't actually have 20" guards in stock.

Ordered the eyelets but had to pass on the mudguards when the postage (FedEx >£16) proved just too expensive. More than the guards {FFE - family-friendly edit }!
Thanks for the heads up on the eyelets.

Just thought I post a follow up on the delivery charges. Rather than just fuming I emailed freemancycles to explain why they had lost a sale. They investigated and found a glitch in their website which made Ayr look like it wasn't mainland UK. They've sorted this now.
